Many of our authorities thought this 9" tall, contemporary black pepper mill was top notch- it met all our criteria: a comfortable grip, a grind that is easily adjustable, and a nut at the base that is independent of the loading ring in the mill's body--so there's no need to reset the grind after refilling. It holds over a cup of peppercorns that are easily added through the large hole on the side of the mill, and works very fast & efficiently, according to Cook's Illustrated, who includes it in their "Best" category. The grinding mechanism has nickel-plated heads that will maintain their cutting edges and won't rust. The Magnum Plus has a lifetime guarantee. Not battery-operated.

This is the best pepper mill I have used so far. I was looking to get either a Perfex or Peugeot pepper mill, but found through internet reviews that many restaurants are using this one with excellent results. The grinding mechanism is made in Italy and only a few effortless turns are needed to produce significant amount fresh ground pepper. I use this pepper mill almost everyday for everything from eggs to salads.

The only design flaw is the ring that open and closes the refill portal can move to the open position when the mill is used resulting in peppercorns all over the floor.

This will be the very LAST peppermill that you ever have to buy! I bought this one for a gift; my original magnum is over 12 years old and still grinds to perfection - course or fine!

Purchased it because of America's Test Kitchen recommendation. It works! Purchased 2 more as gifts. Common consensus among friends is that most peppermills don't work. A little pricey.

We love our Magnum...it's magnificent. Easy to use and we like having the ability to get varied grinds. It holds lots of peppercorns too!

Cooking Tip From the Food Network Kitchens

Kosher salt got its name from its use in the koshering process, where, because of its large grain, it does a better job than fine salt drawing moisture from meats. This ability to draw liquids from foods also makes it useful in preserving and is used in curing prosciutto and brining sauerkraut.
