Made of stainless steel, it's sturdy and durable, and will come in very handy especially for holiday candy making and preparing wonderful sauces for roasts and special meals. Fits all Calphalon Commercial, Professional, and Tri-ply series 2-qt. sauce pans and sauce pots.
Can't answer the optional questions factually. What kind of cook am I? A dam good one. How many people do I usually cook for? Depends, how many are hungry. How often do I cook? Several hour throughout the day and night, thinking, learning, writing, teaching, in the kitchen and at the BBQ? Why not a small comment section for Other.
I have found the Calphalon Tri-Ply stainless line to be a very good value. Not as pricey as All-Clad but I believe it to be just as useful. Since I already owned the 2 1/2 qt pot this was an easy choice. Works like a charm!
Haven't used it yet. I expect it to be the same great quality as all the other Calphalon cookware I have. If for some reason it's not, I will let you know. :O)
Most Double Boiler are to big. I've wanted one for years. It's prefect for small projects. I love the idea of it fitting into a pan I'll use all the time. Instead of a large double boiler and pan that is use once or twice a year, take up a lot of room that be best used for something else. Becides it take a lot longer to heat up. Love the size!!!
I haven't had a chance to use the Calphalon double boiler insert yet. It IS a Calphalon product for those that questioned the authenticity and it fits my Calphalon tri-ply 2.5 qt pot perfectly (the deep 2.5 qt pot not the shallow 2.5 qt pot). I hope to use it soon.

As usual, Calphalon has superior quality to all the tri ply pan sets and beats them hands down in price.

Very easy to use and clean
After reading other's reviews, I did check to make sure I had the pot this insert fits. I do and it works perfectly. I had found and was using a "universal" fit double boiler. That one fit my smallest pans and larger too but would tilt when whisking which caused many stove op spulls. It had a round bottom and could not be set on the counter up right. This ones sits on the counter for adding ingredients and fits the pan properly; no more melted chocolate on the stove.
I have been looking for this type of insert for a long time and am happy to have it to make those recipes that require cooking over a low simmering water that doesn't touch the bottom of my pan. It fits perfectly on the pan I had in mind to use it with.
Bought this to fit my Calphalon pans but it did not. Description said it fit 2.5 qt Calphalon "saucepan," but I tried it in my 2.5 qt Calphalon cooking pots/pans, and it didn't work. Must be designed to fit one specific "saucepan." Disappointing!
I was really disappointed to find out I had to buy a 2 ½ quart saucepan to put this in. I thought it was two pieces. Very deceptive!! I didn’t return it because why pay postage, and the time to send it back. I can go buy a pan to put it in. I am truly not happy – I have purchased a lot of this brand of pan in the past. Jerilyn Rich
This is a very easy item to use. I have never used a double boiler before but with my 1st time trying it, it was so easy! Cannot wait to use it more!
I thought several favorite recipes were going to be gone forever when I broke the semi-antique Pyrex double boiler that I'd "inherited" from my mom (in the 70's!). After juggling with floating pans on top of each other, I found this insert. Contrary to some of the reviews, it fits perfectly in my Calphalon saucepan (2.5 qt - #870212), and I love it!
No set of cookware is complete without a double boiler. This double boiler insert fits the Calphalon 21/2 Qt. tri-ply stainless cookpot perfectly. As was pointed out in an earlier review, the groove on the inside of the double boiler top is the one thing between ordinary and perfection. The Calphalon name is not on the insert anywhere. My guess is that it is not commissioned by Calphalon.
Love it. Like the way the bottom is rounded to accommodate a whisk (unlike other double boilers I've had, which have had flat bottoms). Fits my Calphalon Tri-Ply 2.5-qt. saucepan perfectly.
According to the description of this item, this should have fit two of my Calphalon pots. It did not. It does not fit tightly--diameter is not right and depth is too much. I would recommend calling customer service to confirm whether this is right for your pot.
The product was exactly what I wanted. It was important that it fit my pot.
The double boiler is good quality, etc. My problem is that is doesn't fit the way it should into my 2.5 quart Calphalon saucepan to be used a a double boiler. It will work somewhat in my 2.0 saucepan. It is usable, but not as it is intended. I will wait a while and hopefully order the saucepan that goes with it. Purchasers need to know that is doesn't necessarily fit all other Calphalon pots.

Egg-based emulsified sauces such as Hollandaise tend to break for one of two reasons; either it got too hot, or the butter was added too quickly (meaning it got too cold).
