For home cooks who care about what they feed their families and want to stretch their dollars, this eagerly awaited debut cookbook from Melissa d’Arabian, host of Food Network's Ten Dollar Dinners and winner of The Next Food Network Star, makes good on the $10 promise of dinner for four.
With four young girls ages six and under, and a hit show on Food Network, Melissa d'Arabian focuses on savvy budgeting, efficient shopping, and full-flavored cooking. Ten Dollar Dinners has 140 recipes and more than 100 creative, practical tips on great money-savers (“Clear-Your-Pantry Week”); inventive takes on old standby dinners (try her Moroccan Meatloaf); and how to get ingredients to last longer (keep your green onions in a glass of water and they will re-grow several times over!). And with a coding system to help you create your own $10 menu, Ten Dollar Dinners celebrates spending with purpose, cooking with love, minimizing time spent in front of the stove, and savoring your homemade meal.
Melissa is a pro at creating satisfying meals that adults and kids alike will enjoy, using everyday ingredients, transforming them into delicious dinners: Her Potato Bacon Torte (which, at 50 cents a serving, was one of her winning recipes on The Next Food Network Star) shows how basic and inexpensive grocery store ingredients can be turned into an amazingly satisfying dish. Her Roasted Vegetable Tian is a great way to take advantage of deals in the produce aisle. The 4-Step Chicken offers a plan for getting food on the table in just minutes, using almost anything in the pantry.
Anyone can use this book, especially those who want to save money and feel great about cooking sensibly for elevated, simple meals that are healthy family-pleasers.
On her daytime cooking series, season five winner of The Next Food Network Star and stay-at-home mom, Melissa d'Arabian, shows viewers how to incorporate creative and tasty meals into their budgets by sharing her tried-and-true recipes. With countless tips to save time and money in the kitchen, she keeps her $10 promise in every episode: four people, ten bucks, infinite possibilities. From approachable Parisian and Moroccan menus to sophisticated upgrades for everyday chicken and pork, Ten Dollar Dinners with Melissa d'Arabian demonstrates home cooking at its finest.
This book has some easy recipes and the ingredients needed are inexpensive. There are quite a few pictures of the meals so you know what they should look like. If you liked the show, you will like this cookbook. There are also some great money saving tips.
Melissa's approach to meals is trying to save folks money. Several of her dishes I have already copied from your website and used, but now I have most of these in her book. Also her family played a part in the book - I like that.
I have been a Melissa fan since she competed and love her ten dollar concept!!!
I have been struggling with vegetable dishes, right along with affordable yet filling meals, and found plenty right in one book! Thank you!
The book came quickly and had over the top packaging to protect the product during shipping. The only thing I was a little disappointed in was the meal planning. I was expecting something that had balanced, planned meals with shopping lists. You have to create your own menu from the recipes. I do write down Melissa menus for items in the recipe book that I see on T.V.
Have not really tested any of the receipes yet-but know from watching the show they have to be good!
Without doubt the finest, most useful book of family recipes that taste expensive but cost $10 for a family of four. Better than two (2) thumbs up!
I love the book and also the show. I collect cookbooks and am so happy to add this one to my collection.
I am doing Weight Watchers so eating salads and soups are two very important areas for me to keep within my points value. I have enjoyed Ms. d'Arabian's Chopped Salad with Chicken, Salami and Mozzarella. Most of the ingredients have zero points so this fit it well with my plan. My next one from the cookbook will be the Salade Nicoise with Lemon-Thyme Vinaigrette. While I already make a very healthy veggie soup/stew, I am looking forward to making Ms. d'Arabian's Creamy Any Veggie Soup which uses different varieties and seasonings. I really like this cookbook and is a wonderful addition to the many, many I already have!
Excellent cookbook! I enjoy the hints and suggestions through out the book.
If you're a fan of Ten Dollar Dinners, this is a must-have. When she comes out with another book, I'll buy that, too!
I really like this book. Melissa intertwined tips and treats throughout the book that makes it so special. I was so happy when she won Food Network Star and I LOVE her show, so naturally I HAD to get her book. Awesome! Thanks!
This is a wonderful cookbook for any cook. There are great hints for a bingining cook as well as an experienced cook. All the recipes I have tried were not complicated but turned out fanastic. I am giving 4 of these books as Christmas presents.
I found her on Drop 5# and wanted to see more of what she had to offer. I am not disappointed. Found many recipes marked to try.
Great book, we watched the author win her competition to become the Food TV star she is--My wife loves her stuff! Peter Bray, Benicia, CA
I made 5 recipes in the first 5 days that I had the book. All 5 turned out fabulous! I love the cookbook so much that I just ordered two more to give to my brother and best friend!
I think this book is good for anyone who wants to explore the kitchen. Basic recipes that taste expensive and easy to comprehend. I love the pictures and the stories that go with the cookbook. I watched Melissa D'Arabian win the Next FoodNetwork Star and so this cookbook is even more special to me. I actually wish I would have ordered more as Christmas Gifts.
I gave this to my daughter. She LOVES it. She's tried dozens of recipes already. Her family is devouring the food. Melissa is giving real food ideas that adults and kids will love. And it's on a budget. She uses a lot of common spices and ingredients you are likely to already have at home. I really enjoy hearing about how all of the new dishes are being enjoyed by my daughter's family. This was a great gift. I've now bought one for myself and 2 more to give as gifts. I loved her season on the Next Food Network Star and cheered for her. Now we're all enjoying this great new cookbook. Good job!!
I just recently purchased Melissa D'Arabian's Ten Dollar Dinners cookbook. This cookbook is such a great fit for our family needs. She provides recipes for healthy and flavorful meals that can be prepared in an adequate amount of time. She uses familiar ingredients that add a lot of flavor and don't cost a lot. Also, I appreciate the portion sizes. We are spending far less on ingredients to prepare our meals and we are not wasting any food or ingredients like we were previously. I love to cook, but I am unable to create a full spread on a week night basis. But on the other hand, I don't want a bunch of casserole and one pot dish recipes. Melissa's recipes allow you to feel the creativity of cooking while keeping it simple enough that you can put dinner on the table in a short amount of time. This is the cookbook I've been searching for...I have already made 1/3 of the recipes in this cookbook and am already looking forward to her next cookbook.
