Just like the one Grandma used, this skillet performs exceptionally well with its cast iron construction that heats evenly then retains the heat all through the cooking process. Use the skillet for cooking eggs, hashbrowns or fried chicken. This skillet is particularly nice because it's already seasoned and ready-to-use once you get it. It's coated with a special vegetable oil formula that's been baked-on in a very hot industrial oven. The high temperature allows the oil to penetrate deeply into the cast iron surface creating that prized heirloom finish, saving you the time and effort of doing it on your own.

The skillet cooks evenly, and it doesn't stick after the first use. We are quite happy with it.

I found it a little difficult to clean, despite the pre-greased condition, and it is heavy--I know that is part of its being cast iron, but it seems heavy for its size.

This is a great bargain for such a large skillet! It heats very quickly compared to traditional nonstick pans. The pan is hefty, so I'd use two hands with potholders to move it around. I've had great success frying and searing meats with this pan and have not had a problem with food sticking. Furthermore, cleanup is a breeze if u wash right afterwards: a stiff brush and water picks everything up while the pan is hot. There is a suggested maintenance step that you lightly oil the entire pan after drying. This is the only downside to this pan, and it's only a minor annoyance that takes 1 minute. Supposedly, cast iron should last forever if maintained properly. I look forward to finding out!

My only gripe about this product is the pricing. You can find this same product at Wal-Mart for much cheaper than it is being sold here.

Cooking Tip From the Food Network Kitchens

Reducing a sauce? Use a skillet; its larger surface area reduces sauces faster than simmering them in a saucepan.
