I had a stainless steel food mill for years but it was large, bulky and hard to turn. I still need to use a food mill occasionally so decided to purchase a much smaller lighter version. I am thrilled with the lighter, easier plastic mill. The blades and handle are stainless but the compact plastic bowl makes it so much lighter and the smaller handle is easier to turn. I would recommend this product to "older" cooks whose hand strength has diminished a little over the years.
I read about using a food mill in Cook's Country magazine ... that it makes silky smooth mashed potatoes without fail. I had to get one and this one is fantastic. It's easy to use and lives up to its promise. I highly recommend it! I love it!
Bought this as using a potato ricer has become problematic for my hands. It is easy enough to assemble and use--does a great job, and can be put in the dishwasher. Who could ask for more?
Although there are better food mills on the market, this is an excellent choice for its price. It doesn't have a large capacity and I worry about the plastic lasting as long as a metal one would. but for ocassional use this is sufficient.
This is not the best food mill out there... but it is a good deal. If you're a just making jams and sauces as a hobby (as I am) and don't want to spend $100.00 on a food mill for 1 or 2 uses a year, this one will do just fine.

Having a food mill is essential when making homemade tomato sauce; it's the easiest and best way to separate the skin from the pulp.
