Jamie Oliver grew up in his parents' country pub, where he started cooking at the age of eight and has since worked with some of the world's top chefs. Jamie has starred in five television series. Jamie's Fifteen Foundation provides training and mentoring for disadvantaged young people and now has programs and restaurants in London, Cornwall, Amsterdam, and Melbourne. He's probably best known for his work as the Naked Chef--a young Brit who stripped down food to its bare essentials. Jamie lives in London with his wife, Jools, and their daughters, Poppy and Daisy.
I bought this as a gift for my son who is just getting a real interest in cooking. This book explains things which is great for a beginner as well as an experienced cook. He just loves the book and can't wait to start creating some of the receipes.

I love this cookbook ! The recipes are terrific. Its easy to understand. The photos are beautiful. The recipes and ingredients he uses are so fresh, new and exciting. "Cook with Jamie" is very instructive for the new cook who's just starting out. I bought one for my 19 year old daughter ( a new beginner cook in her own new apt) and she loves it too. She loves the introductions and explanations in the beginnings of each chapter. Its so informative to learn exactly where the cut of meat you will be using in a recipe comes from or how to be a better meat shopper ( which is the title of one particular section in the book) Its brilliant that he uses a lot of old fashioned veggies and proteins and brings them back to the forefront, almost re-introducing them to the world. One of the sections is entitled " Celebrating Veg" and that really is exactly what he does. I also love that all his dishes are SO colorful (he'll suggest using say, not just orange carrots but the orange, yellow and purple ones to brighten and happy up the plate.) This book contains a wide variety of fish recipes using some varieties of fish a little off the beaten track for most home cooks. I've already made a couple of the recipes for family dinners and gotten rave reviews on them from everyone. The pasta section totally de-mystifies making your own pasta with detailed black and white photos of every step. Makes it look so easy. Since I bought the book, I have tried a handful of the recipes and everything I've made has been ultra-delicious ! His recipes are so appetizing - I can't wait to try them all at home. His narrative is easy to understand, educational but FUN. I would highly suggest that everyone, all cooks, beginners and seasoned veterans alike, buy this book and immerse yourself in it. "Cook with Jamie" inspires me to be a better cook. Ten gold stars !!!!!!! Both my daughter and I LOVE IT !!!!!!!!! We have always really liked Jamie Oliver's cooking shows ( the new one "Jamie At Home" thats on the food network at an ungodly hour of the morning on Saturday mornings is wonderful and inspiring) I already have three other Jamie Oliver cookbooks (So yes, admittedly I am a fan) This one, "Cook with Jamie" is definitely the best of all his cookbooks. He is a great talent in the culinary world. I just wish the food network would take advantage of him and air his show more frequently and in a better time slot.
We have enjoyed this book and believe he has outdone himself on this one. It is a great book and really very interesting. We have several recipes we are going to try, still using the other one. But will be making recipes from this one very soon.
