Taking a lyrical and affectionate look at a year in the life of his garden, Shepherd, an obsessed garden enthusiast, celebrates the art of growing tomatoes and the abundant ways in which to enjoy its bounty. Not a cookbook.
I'm a little embarassed to admit bought this to fill out my order and get the cheap shipping. The book chronicles a single season in which the author sets out tomatos from seed. However, it is rounded out with descriptions of a neighborhood community, and events involving his own family. I have found it surprisingly absorbing.

If you've just squeezed the juice out of a lemon, save the remaining halves to clean your stainless steel sink. Wet the sink, then sprinkle with kosher salt and rub with the lemon half. Your sink will be sparkling and your kitchen will smell great.
