The granite top is a bit more elegant to use for entertaining than the non-stick surfaces usually available for raclette; however, it's difficult to place the raclette in the center of the table for everyone to enjoy (this size only works comfortably for 4 people) since the cord is so short. Otherwise, if you set it up properly, it's a fun and interactive way to enjoy steak, shrimp, vegetables and melted cheese. For larger groups of 6-8, we use two raclette units and cook proteins on one top, and vegetables on the other. This way everyone can easily reach a place to melt their cheese. Also, we have found a vast difference in the quality of raclette cheese depending on the brand, so experiment with various raclette cheese brands until you find the right one.

What our Kitchen Experts Say
We like using ground sirloin for hamburgers because it is lower in fat than chuck, and also because of its steakier taste. However, if you prefer a more classic-tasting burger, use a blend of the two. A quick guide for how to tell your burger is done: insert a thermometer sideways into the center of the burger; when it reads 145 degrees F it's medium rare, 160 degrees F it's medium, and 170 degrees F it's well done.
