10.75-in. - Nonstick
Product Description:
The term "Raclette" comes from the French word "racler" which means, "to scrape." The term dates back hundreds of years when Swiss shepherds, while moving their herds into the mountains, would melt large rounds of cheese on a flat rock near their campfires. Once the cheese began to bubble and melt, they would scrape it off the rock and serve it over roasted potatoes. Today, while preparing your meal is not that primitive, the method by which the shepherds cooked is still appreciated especially when you use this Swiss Raclette. With it, you can prepare melted cheese plus many healthy dishes as well. The top portion is used for grilling vegetables, seafood, mini quiches and garlic bread. The lower portion is for melting the cheese on your individual side dishes. Included with the Raclette are 8 cooking/serving dishes and wood spatulas.

Have only used it once so far but it heated well and evenly, the temp control helped to maintain a high but not burning level of heat. We grilled shrimp, small sausages, and onions on the grill top and it worked well once the top got up to heat. Cheese melted easily and evenly and slid out of the trays effortlessly. The grill top lifts off easily for cleaning though during cooking I never noticed it to be insecure. The grill top wipes clean easily. So far no problems what so ever.

Pros: Excellent heat control and very well placed heating elements provide for good cooking results.

Cons: It would have been a great idea to have a reversable grill top so it might be used for making pancakes and eggs at the table.

What our Kitchen Experts Say
Ground sirloin is lower in fat and steakier-tasting than chuck, which is why we like to use it for hamburgers. For a more classic burger taste, go with a blend of the two. Cook burgers until a thermometer inserted sideways into the center of the burger reads 145 degrees F for medium rare, 160 degrees F for medium, and 170 degrees F for well done.
