I love the show and when they recomended the coffee maker - I sent for it even if it was expensive, cause I love my coffee. I could not taste an improved difference with this coffee pot. I usually grind my own beans, but also had them ground at the coffee shop. I would make coffee in the techivorm and well as my cusinart and I really couldn't tell the difference. I'd make it for other family members and friends to get their opinions, but they had no preference either. So finally, after making sure I was doing it right, I did return the coffee maker. I couldn't justify keeping it for the price that is charged. One side note - if you wanted a quick cup when brewing, there was a lever to move. It never stopped the coffee from dripping onto the counter. I thought since this feature works so simple on cheaper models, this expensive model should definitely work great. But, since the coffee brewed so fast, I just waited until it completed the brewing cycle. I will still continue to watch the show and follow their recommendations. This one didn't work for me this time.
There is something retro about the looks of this coffee maker. Somewhat utilitarian. I read the review where someone complained about the recommendation that one should put boiling water in the carafe to warm it up before using it. I can't imagine not heating any carafe before using it. This coffee maker is not for someone that is looking for convenience and a "fair" cup of coffee. It is not programable, you do need to heat up the carafe and the coffee tastes better if you take the time to stop the flow of hot water, close off the cone and stir the hot water and coffee grounds to get them all wet before releasing the flow of water. I don't mind taking the extra time (and steps) to have a great cup of coffee, compared to coffee that is mediocre and even worse after it sits on a burner for a while.
We new we were in trouble when the instructions suggested you first heat the coffee pot.
Filling the tank is awkward and not having a automatic shutoff was poor design. Water is heated quickly, goes through the coffee basket and goes into the insulated
pot.
If you don't use the coffee immediately your coffee will be warm as in not hot.
Because the pot is not heated you must seal it asap if you expect to have a warm cup within an hour. The pot does not hold heat.
Do not bother with this item. Over priced!
This coffee maker is not special for the price. I don't think it is solid construction. I am actually disappointed. The coffee and brewing does not stand out from others of it's kind. My opinion is based on the fact that I use many kinds of brewing methods for a variety of flavors.
Sincerely, Sharon Gordon
This is a well engineered machine. It is basic but the parts went the extra mile. However $300??? It should be at most $$175. The old expression, whatever the market will bear. I love the coffee's quality. The output was head an shoulders above my last maker. It is an extremely well made Volkswagen.
