These mitts were well reviewed in Cooks Illustrated and I agree. They are a little stiff "right from the package" but very nice.

I bought 2 of these mitts because my old ones were shot. I don't like most of the mitts you can get in department stores because they wear out in no time flat. I suspect the quilting doesn't help them, and they're usually filled with some synthetic fabric, and not much of it. These Kool-tek mitts are awesome! I use my oven a lot and now I don't have to be afraid to put my hands in to pull out pans.

First potholder I've had where I could actually hold a hot handle/pot! Your price for this item was better than anywhere else I looked.

The mitts were large enough to fit my father's hands, which is a huge plus. They insulated against all sorts of hot pans and splashes.

A little bit on the pricey side, but still a very great buy. I got these per a recommendation that I saw in Cooks Illustrated. Initially received just one mitt (the long one) as a gift, then bought this 12-in. one so that I'd have a pair. This one is perfect for regular baking.. keeps my fingers safe even when I use it to lift a hot pizza stone.

Really do protect

I think they're expensive so I wondered if they really were worth the money. So I turned on my gas range, put on the glove, and held my hand over the flame. After about 30 seconds I realized I wasn't feeling hardly any heat, so I removed my hand from over the gas range and felt the outside of the glove, It was hot, but I couldn't feel the heat on the inside. They're really good. BTW, they also make a better glove for heat over 500 degrees (in this one, they also use silicon), but I didn't see a use for it.

cool red mitts

I now own a pair for myself, and one for my college-aged daughter in an apartment. Whether grabbing something hot out of the oven, or hot off the grill, these mitts are the best! Worth the price, a pair goes for around $50. If America's Test Kitchen thinks they are the best, as I do, and are used professionally by the bakers of Jimmy John's, I think most people will be more than satisfied. Good luck, and good cooking!

Love these hot mitts! I had bought a pr. of silicone mitts last yr. and had a serious burn when they shifted while pouring boiling water. These afford full protection, are lightweight and conform to what you are handling. I highly recommend these mitts!

These are expensive, but no worry about the heat coming through when you are picking up hot pans. They are a little bulky, but I don't have large hands. I am assuming that when they break in a little bit they will get that

Cooking Tip From the Food Network Kitchens

If you're basting your meat with sugary sauces (like most barbecue sauces), do it at the very end of the cooking process, so the meat has a chance to cook through before the sugars in the sauce burn.
