My husband has rejected every other oven mitt we've ever purchased as too flimsy, but this one provides great protection from the heat. The downside is they are a bit more cumbersome then some other gloves, but the tradeoff is worth it.

I bought two of these mitts based on a review in Cook's Illustrated. I previously had a pair of oven gloves (ie with fingers) which were not great at protecting my hand, and more to the point once they got dirty they wouldn't get clean, and my wife made me throw them out. These mtts are OK at heat protection, which is the main point, but they are impossible for handling a lot of stuff. Things that require some dexterity, like removing an egg poacher insert from the boiling water, are impossible with these. I will probably go out and buy another pair of the gloves I used to have. Help the economy, and all that.

The Kool-tek Oven Mitt replaced silicone mitts which were unsatisfactory. The Kool-tek Mitts are much more comfortable, resist heat and allow for a good grip, one-handed on hot objects. They are not submersible, and the general rules about having a spot ready when you pull a hot pan out of the oven still apply. The long-term assessment will depend on how they do in the washing machine when they get dirty.

It's wonderful, except that the mitts are huge for people with medium or small hands. It should come in sizes, but it works wonderfully --- far, far better than silicone mitts.

I like this size better (12-inch) than the longer 15-inch glove. The longer glove tends to get pushed off from my sleeve. The glove is great other than it is for a very large hand. My hand (female) swims around in it so I don't get a more confident grip. The color is fun!

Really safe

These keep you cool even if they get a bit wet. I wish there were a tiny bit smaller for those of us with small hands. But they are more flexible than many mitts with less insulation. Good one.

Nice Upgrade
by Robin, WI
December 12, 2006

After making due with cotton mitts that really didn't work at all, I finally upgraded to some decent ones and can't believe I waited this long! They aren't the prettiest things around, but they feel like a solid barrier between hand and heat. You can feel some heat if you hold something for an extended period, but it's not uncomfortable. If they weren't quite so bulky and unattractive, I'd give them a 5, but in reality they do exactly what they're supposed to.

I love this mitt. If needing to order again I would, but I would select the longer 15inch, instead.

Kool-tek Oven Mitt is nice, but ...
by Phyllis, CA
May 16, 2007

I think this item is rather expensive. I mean, the price is PER mitt, so you almost always want a set (since you can't take a big roasting pan out of the oven with one hand!), so I think they should reduce the price a bit AND sell it in a set.

I do like the heat resistance you get with this mitt ... it really protects your hands. If there was one thing I wish it had, I wish that on one side of the mitt, there was some kind of non-slip material, so that if you're picking up a heavy saucepan with a metal handle, it won't slip around.

Kool-tek Mitt is Cool

While this mitt is expensive, it is the best mitt that I have ever used. It is flexible and is excellent in keeping my hand cool when retrieving hot baking pots and pans from the oven.

Great so far!!

I purchased these for my husband for xmas since he does most of the cooking-read about them on cooksmagazine.com -they had good reviews. So far they have worked great. The material is nice, and they are comfortable-a little hard for me to get a tray out of the oven with my small hands. Seem to work well -a little high priced, though-

Kook-tek Oven Mitt Review
by Lynnette, GA

Great product - it's constructed well and does a great job of keeping the heat away from my hands long enough to get to my buffet across the kitchen with a dish directly from the oven. My previous mitts didn't do that. I highly recommend these. They're a little pricey, but I suspect with the way they're made, they'll last a lot longer than my others. I may have missed them, but I'd love to see these in a longer version to protect more of my arms.

Great oven mitt.
by Kevin, MA
June 22, 2008

I bought this mitt after seeing it reviewed on America's Test Kitchen. It really is the best, despite the high price. Pans hot from the oven barely feel warm. I even held a 400 degree casserole for 1 minute to test them, and although my hands got warm, I never felt like they were even close to burning.

EXCELLENT GLOVES

While these are rather expensive, they should last a lifetime and have handled very hot items with ease and good grip. I particularly like the protection they give your forearms.

The only oven mitt to own
by Kay, DC
September 8, 2008

I got one of these earlier. I bought another so I could have a pair. They allow you to hold hot items longer. They protect top and bottom and up the wrist. If you are interested in matching your decor, these may not be for you. But I actually use my kitchen to cook. I tossed the drawer full of other mitts and pads.

Great Oven Mitt
by Ann, WI
October 8, 2008

When I ordered this mitt, I was debating between the 12 inch and 15 inch (found elsewhere.) The shorter version was cheaper, so I took a chance. I am quite pleased with the purchase. It is the perfect combination of enough coverage and thickness, without feeling too bulky. It gives great protection from the heat, but does not prevent me from properly gripping pans. I am considering ordering a second one. Cook's Illustrated recommended it and they were right.

These are wonderful! No more burned fingers from heat penetrating your oven mitts! Not even steam seems to penetrate them. It's good to know that when you pull something from the oven, the only thing you need worry about is where you're going to put it down.

Cooking Tip From the Food Network Kitchens

If you're basting your meat with sugary sauces (like most barbecue sauces), do it at the very end of the cooking process, so the meat has a chance to cook through before the sugars in the sauce burn.
