For making gravies and sauces, this separator helps you save the flavor, straining out greasy fat. To use, pour liquid into the separator. Fat rises to the top, while leaner parts settle to the bottom. The heat-resistant strainer catches unwanted food bits, and the stopper prevents fat from entering the spout when you pour liquid back into your pot to finish cooking. A shield stops fat from spilling over the top of the separator. Measurement markings add convenience, and the non-slip handle provides a comfortable grip. Holds four cups.
I actually have one like this in the past that I seem to have lost. So I know I had to order exactly the same one. Very useful, very helpful especially when your're trying to watch and drain some fats from your cooking. Very helpful past thanksgiving.
Needed to make changes in my diet since becoming a diabetic and this helps a whole lot in my healthcare plans
I tried to use this with the drippings from a roasted chicken, but there was not enough volume for the separater to work. It will be more useful for Thanksgiving and the coming holidays, when there will be more drippings to work with.
This OXO fat separator strainer is excellent as most everything OXO makes is. Large capacity, heavy duty, and that it comes with a strainer makes this a versatile tool in any kitchen.
I have wanted a fat separator for a long time. I have a really old one and was looking to update. I like this for a number of reasons, the size, the strainer on the top to catch larger bits of herbs, fat, etc., it has a really nice handle that is easy to hold, you have a nice grip with it. I am not sure what the stopper is for in the spout. It says it is to keep fat out of the spout, but I didn't see how that worked very well. Maybe I didn't let it sit long enough to separate correctly? I will try it again and see if it works better. But overall, it did a good job and the gravy I was making was a lot less greasy than if I didn't use this.

Separators are great to have because they make separating fat easy and less messy; the low-on-the-cup spout helps pour out the drippings and leave the fat behind.
