One day, back in the summer of 1992, I decided I wanted to make a television food show. I wasn't going to let the fact that I was little more than a hobbyist get in the way. The odyssey that followed became the program "Good Eats," which has managed to hold its own on the Food Network for over a decade. (It even won a Peabody Award, which is a pretty big deal.)
Good Eats: The Early Years is an encyclopedic work encompassing the show's first 80 episodes, from "Steak Your Claim" to "Casserole Over." Each show has its very own chapter, complete with remastered recipes, behind-the-scenes photos and lore, stunningly sophomoric illustrations, poetic narrative, and plenty of useful facts cleverly packaged in the form of knowledge concentrates (patent pending). We've even included bonus recipes that we've been selfishly hoarding over the years. Best of all, we've addressed a few nagging anomalies that have been chafing at our collective culinary conscience for all this time. Nothing big, mind you, but it does feel good to set a few things straight.
If you're a "Good Eats" fan, a cook, someone who eats, or just a sentient creature passing through the solar system, you'll want your very own copy of Good Eats: The Early Years. And don't worry, Good Eats: The Middle Ages is in the works as we speak.
May the food be with you.

Here are the recipes in print, to sit and brouse. Its easy to find the details of the recipes while reading the commentary on how/what AB thinks about cooking. Nice to have them in hand rather than fishing around FN trying to find AB's recipes.
informative, witty, an excellent companion to the show. finally! the reason why things are the way they are! I've been cooking for 40 years and am still learning. thanks Alton .
The book covers a lot of information that is easy to miss in the show due to the speed of presentation. Plus it is very entertaining.
I just love watching Good Eats! This book is the ultimate behind the scenes look at the show, Alton Brown and the great food advise he gives. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes the show!
Interesting background information and practical instructions about food that one would would actually want to prepare and eat.
This book is very informative. Its a lot of fun to read and is written very well.
AB ~ THIS BOOK IS AMAZING ... SO MUCH INFO ...
This compilation fulfills that need to have the wisdom of the first 80 episodes at your fingertips. Not only are all of the on-air recipes and teachings included, but extra recipes and behind the scenes info as well. Those quirky little snippets are so well written, that you can almost hear Alton speaking them.
well your email arrived a day before the book, no problem though. good service. at first glance, book looks really neat. have always been a fan. it will take awhile to get through it, but am already looking forward to the future volumes
Every few pages contain the key info from a different episode episode of the show. Typical A.B. style with sketches, puppets, models, side notes, etc. Also notes about filming the show. Fun to read...looking forward to the next one.
Great book that has lots of recipes from the shows. I am glad that they were put in a written form.
I was not amazed about how the good the book was because Alton Brown is basicly my hero. But I was amazed at how well it was put together with so much amazingly useful information crammed into it. Anyone that is interested in Alton Brown or his show or even remotely interested in cooking at all should look into buying this book. P.S. I will be 13 years old next month!
I purchase the book for my sons who, along with myself, are great fans of Alton Brown and Good Eats. We think the making of the book was an excellent idea, and are very impressed with its appearance, content and readability. Love all the extra information in the book, the pictures from the show and the extra recipes. We are looking forward to the next two volumes. Can't wait!
This book is huge but so readable. It is very much like watching Good Eats! There are wonderful photographs from the shows. Also a highlighted box of all the important notes from each show and many recipies. I read cookbooks like novels and this is my favorite so far.
I love having the info that Alton Brown provides in writing in my own kitchen.
Anything that involves Alton Brown is super as far as I'm concerned! His show is entertaining as well as very informative. I've learned a lot from his shows as well as being very well entertained. I was happy to get some background on the shows I've loved and get to see some of the terrific people he has working with him. Here's to another 10 years of Good Eats!!! The book is great - absolutely love it!
I love my book, "Good Eats the Early Years". Alton Brown has done it again......His book is almost as good as his show. I can't believe the quality and minimal cost for such a treasure. Can't wait for the following chapters.. Linda Freeman
The pages of this cookbook are full of information that can fill in the gaps and give one a better sense of how "cooking" works. Cooking is more like edible chemistry, and A. Brown's goal is to explain that with each demonstration.
I love this book. I was hoping that it might be authographed. That would have been awesome. Love the book.
Great show, really good book, wonderful recipes!
