One day, back in the summer of 1992, I decided I wanted to make a television food show. I wasn't going to let the fact that I was little more than a hobbyist get in the way. The odyssey that followed became the program "Good Eats," which has managed to hold its own on the Food Network for over a decade. (It even won a Peabody Award, which is a pretty big deal.)
Good Eats: The Early Years is an encyclopedic work encompassing the show's first 80 episodes, from "Steak Your Claim" to "Casserole Over." Each show has its very own chapter, complete with remastered recipes, behind-the-scenes photos and lore, stunningly sophomoric illustrations, poetic narrative, and plenty of useful facts cleverly packaged in the form of knowledge concentrates (patent pending). We've even included bonus recipes that we've been selfishly hoarding over the years. Best of all, we've addressed a few nagging anomalies that have been chafing at our collective culinary conscience for all this time. Nothing big, mind you, but it does feel good to set a few things straight.
If you're a "Good Eats" fan, a cook, someone who eats, or just a sentient creature passing through the solar system, you'll want your very own copy of Good Eats: The Early Years. And don't worry, Good Eats: The Middle Ages is in the works as we speak.
May the food be with you.

Very large book with an encyclopedic history of his great Good Eats program. Must have.
I love Alton's books. I am already learning so much from these books. I also love his shows. Wish he could come up with another show just as entertaining and knowledgeable.
I love watching the shows and can't wait to dive into the book. I have read the into pages and am already laughing! The book was shipped out quickly with no fee and was the best price I found.
Great for newlyweds or just beginning to cook.
I love AB's books! And the recipes too although I haven't had time to try these.
This book is has it all. Recipes, technique, science, entertainment and tons of research with fun facts. Love the show and now I have the information at my fingertips in my kitchen. The book is very well written and thought out. Who would have known you could get a cook book with personality. Can't wait to order the other 2.
Good Eats has been a show my kids and I have watched from the very beginning. My teenage son is learning to be quite the cook. He wants to be a firefighter but also wants to pursue a culinary degree so he can be more desirable to be hired in the firehouse. Your books, not only are full of great recipes, but also teach him the science and know-how of why foods taste like they do and what sauces do what. I am enjoying his flavorful dishes! Editions 2 and 3 of the trilogy have already been requested. Oh...I have read it as well. Thank you Alton!!
Bought this for my boyfriend and he absolutely LOVES it! Content is great and there is more space in the margins for notes than I expected. Highly recommend it to any Alton Brown fan.
I gave this book as a gift to my mom and she loves it. Thanks Alton!!
Does Good Eats 2 have different or enhanced receipes? Thanks
Loved the book too much I guess. I wore the darn thing out. This was its replacement. Thats how much I love the recipes.
I was really impressed with how fast I received my purchase. This is a great addition to my collection. Alton Brown is the best!
I wish that it was signed, had a DVD, and included ALL of the episodes during this time period. I actually bought for a specific episode/recipe and it was not included. :-( I would return it, but I like Alton and the fun facts he shares.
I would have liked to ask about the book choices. If I was only purchasing one book which would Alton recomend? I found that there was too much behind the scene stuff and not enough cookbook...
Brilliant Job Alton Brown. Most cookbooks are just a bunch of recipes. I love the science, stories, mostly the comedy. They say the best thing in a recipe is love; Well there is one other and that's laughter. Make it fun.
As a cooking professional, I have the utmost respect for Alton. He inspires, educates, and entertains all at the same time. This is exactly the type of instruction I hope to provide in my classes. I wish him many years of continued success in his endeavors.
What a great set of books. I purchased all 3 to give to my son-in-law for Christmas. He will be thrilled!
Leave it to Alton to make cooking fun and educational...................he is so entertaining!!
What's not to like? Everything is great!!
I'm a big fan of Alton Brown. Had my teachers in school been half as good, I might have been a better student. Unfortunately, I discovered his show somewhere in the middle years. I bought the book to give me background into what made it a success in the first place. I am not disappointed. Alton Brown is the Mister Wizard of culinaria - alternately funny, silly, corny and informative. He is never boring. I highly recommend his book.
