    Great for cooking and storing
    by Chad, TX

These are big and sturdy, and allow you to skip some dishwashing. You can bake a covered casserole or custard, let it cool, switch the lids to plastic, and pop it right into the fridge or freezer. Since buying this set nine months ago, we use the big dishes at least once a week to bake and/or to store food in the freezer. We never use the smaller 2-cup dish. I don't understand why they even offer that little one without any lid. For great, inexpensive, small glass storage containers that you don't need to have a glass lid to bake with, check out the Pyrex bowls (e.g., #214213, #100708, #100701).

I bought this set to replace the big round bowl that I broke in my other set. I love the corningware, it is very versatile. There are minor differences with the new set I received and the old set I already have such as the bottom of the old set is smooth whereas the new set is not. This part I don't like since now I need to make sure I put something under it when I place it on my smooth top cooking surface so I don't scratch it. Otherwise it is still good purchase and I will use it all the time like my old stuff.

My only complaint about this is that I wish there would be a glass lid for the small dish also.

There are few things more frustrating than when you're about to bake a cake or pie and have all your ingredients ready, but then realize you don't have the right kind of pan. You can prevent this from happening by keeping an 'inventory' of the different sizes and types of baking pans you have at home. It can hard to remember if that pan way in the back of the cupboard is 8" x 8" or 9" x 9", so make a quick list and tape it to the inside of your cupboard door. That way you can easily check if you're properly equipped for a recipe- before it's too late.
