The product was packed well and arrived as described and as expected ... with one or two exceptions. It seems well constructed of low-carbon steel with a glass coating that feels like baked-on porcelain enamel.

However, I noticed a small circular disk-shaped piece (about 3/8" diameter) of the enamel missing near one of the inside corners of the poacher that exposes the underlying metal. Interestingly, it also had the same missing piece of enamel at exactly that same place on the opposite underside of the poacher exposing the metal as well. I have never seen anything like this before in any cookware and can only attribute it to a defect in the manufacturing coating process.

If the defect is only cosmetic and doesn't affect it's use, flavor, leaching of any toxic chemicals or accelerating its decomposition into an actual hole in the pot, I don't have a problem keeping it. Does anyone know of any potential problem with the exposed metal, especially from oils or food by-products under heat, steaming or boiling food?

The only other disturbing issue is the unusual warning on the label "WARNING: Do not pick up any Seafood Pot by the handles when full of hot water or hot water and seafood." I have only seen this type of warning on cheap pots and pans when the handle was not correctly welded or riveted on but just weakly spot-welded or glued on, which can weaken and easily break when subjected to heat and/or normal usage.

I can't tell how the handles are attached as they are covered by the enamel coating but I know many serious accidents have been documented from pots of boiling hot food being dumped onto unsuspecting people when a faulty handle comes apart at the worst possible moment. Warning label or not, this seems to be a lawsuit waiting to happen due to a design flaw.

The handle and handle attachment. should be one of the strongest parts of the pot and certainly more than strong enough to support the pot filled to it's stated capacity. It should not be the weakest parts (requiring a warning label) since this is where a single point of failure can cause a catastrophic accident with dire consequences that one can easily imagine.

This fish poacher certainly sounds like a strong candidate for a product redesign and possibly a manufacturing review, or at least a quality control process review so products with chips in the enamel coating do not pass inspection and will get rejected before they are sent to customers.

Fix these couple of flaws and I'll be happy to recommend the product.
