    Love this thermometer!

I rec'd this thermometer as a gift and it is the best thermometer I've ever owned. I make loads of homemade candy that takes a candy thermometer and lots of stirring. Other candy thermometers break easily and do not register temps correctly (I went through 3 others this winter alone before I got this one). I love the temperature alarm feature that beeps at me when I'm at the correct temp. Also, having digital numbers is so much easier on my eyes--no more searching for the tiny little lines on the traditional thermometer. One of the problems I had in the past is that my thermometers would fall off the side of the pot and into the candy. And I would have to continually prop the thermometer back up to be straight. This thermometer hooks on and maintains a strong hold on the pot. Love it!! If you need a good, dependable thermometer, GET THIS ONE NOW!

I bought this thermometer for candy making. I have a few issues with it. First, most of my candy recipes do not come far enough up on the stem so I dont get an accurate reading. The recipes do go over the line marked on the stem, but to get an accurate reading, apparently this line is not as high as it should be. Second, the product is topheavy and tends to fall over while still clipped to the pan. Be careful when removing it because the clip is a good one but it gets really hot. I also wish it had an on/off switch instead of an auto off switch that kicks in after 3.5 minutes below 130 degrees. When making fudge, I need to cool it to 110 degrees and cannot use this thermometer for that purpose. I would recommend this product but keep all the above in mind. It may be better suited for deep frying applications.

This is one of the more accurate termometers I have tried and it is easy to use. I was not impressed with the named range selectors because they are too small to be readable, but the temperature display is easy to see. You can set the alarm based on the position of the named ranges if you consult the instructions where the names are more legible. The clamp holds the thermometer in place well and doesn't allow the probe to move up and down so it will not accidently touch the bottom of the pan. It does tend to tip from side to side a bit, but there is little danger of it falling off of the pan.

Put your old glass thermometer away. You won't even need it as a backup. The accuracy is the best feature of this meter. Selectable for Candy or Oil. I love it. If I could change anything, I would have the alarm settings changed from icons to actual temperature levels. That is, rather than "Hard Crack" to say "300°" However the temperature reading at the top is what is important and it is very accurate. I also love the AAA batteries, they are available everywhere. In order to save money, I started making my own potato chips and candy some time ago. According to my calculations, this device has not only paid for itself, it is now making money for my family each time we save.

I got this as a gift, and I like it real well. It beeps when reaches the soft ball stage, and you can adjust the front so it looks up and is easy to see. Alton Brown uses this, and now I do too.
