This stone works perfectly for me. It's small, cheap, comes with a lid (why you'd get the version without the lid, I don't know), and most importantly it will sharpen your knife.

Contrary to what you might think, a sharp knife is actually safer than a dull knife. The important thing to remember when chopping and cutting is to let the knife do the work for you.
