Not U.S. made as it seems

This item not American made as it appears, made in China. Very disappointed this fact not clear on this website. I returned the product. We have no confidence that there is no lead in Chinese made products.

Excellent dutch oven. I have a Le Creuset dutch oven that was a gift and for me the results are the same excellent. And by the way if you look at alot of chefs cast iron cookware it is made in China too. Rachael Ray etc.

I was very disappointed to find "Made in CHINA" written on the box! I bought Lodge, because I thought it was US made. It was not advertised as such. I gave the pot to charity and I hope that it does not "poison" anyone with lead or cadmium! Please add the maker of the product which you are selling.

Great product

Not only in this dutch oven lovely, it makes the best bread I have ever had. The dutch oven traps all of the steam and creates a perfect crust. Frankly, we just couldn't afford a Le Creuset dutch oven, and this was one was recommended by Cook's Illustrated (couldn't bring myself to buy the other dutch oven they recommended, as it was only available from Wal-Mart)...

Anyway, we are really enjoying this product. Definitely do not put it in the oven at greater than 450 as the handle top will crack. This heat limitation would be the only limiting factor for this product, but we have just adjusted our cooking regime for the bread--really, for the price, aesthetic value and products that come out of this dutch oven, I don't mind the temperature limitation at all!

Good buy.

More than what I was expecting! Works perfectly and you just cannot beat the price over the expensive brands. I hope Lodge considers producing more of the other sizes the expensive brands offer. Great product!!!

Going Dutch

I bought a 3 qt. Lodge dutch oven last year and love it but it's too small for my recipes. This one is just as good. For those of us who can't afford Le Creuset, Lodge is the brand to buy.

Lovely, well made, useful

A dear friend gave me a on-line Paula Deen Store coupon for my birthday, which provided the luxury of shopping for whatever I wanted. This type of cookware has been on my wish list for a long time, but more well know brands are just too expensive. After all, one must choose between expensive cookware or new shoes! The pot has been used one time so far to cook fresh green beans, and they turned out good. This pot is heavy as all get out, so I think it will be useful for things you want to cook low and slow for a long time, as well as things you cook on high temperature for a shorter time without burning. My Mom has an old club aluminum pot that has made enough fudge to fill up the Queen Mary, and I think this pot will do well as a fudge pot also. The pot is sitting on the stove because it is too big and heavy to get and out of the cabinet. The red color is a lovely accent to my neutral-color kitchen. Also, if a burgler gets in, I will hit him on the head with this pot and run away.

lovely addition to my cookware
by Bonnie, CA
December 4, 2011

Have used this just once since receiving it. I made a pot of chili. It performed beautifully. Should prove to be worthwhile addition to my cookware. All positives about it being nonstick, easy to clean, held an even cooking temperature, etc. One negative for some people will be it's weight, but that is to be expected with porcelain enamel over cast iron.
I am going to love cooking in this dutch oven, and I think everyone who can lift one should get one!

The price is a little steep but I love this pot. Since I got it I haven't hardly used anything else. Cleans up easily. My kids both want one now too. Love the colors too.

Compared to the prices they charge at kitchen stores, this is a fantastic dutch oven for a very reasonable price. I cooked an inexpensive type of roast in it (with broth, wine, onions, etc.) the first time and it turned out scrumptious. I will be using this pot a lot.

Cooking Tip From the Food Network Kitchens

Dutch ovens are not only great for cooking, but they're also fantastic serving pieces. Cast iron and ceramic retain heat longer than other materials, so they'll help keep your food warm at the table. Your hungry diners can serve themselves family-style, which means less hopping up and down for you. Just be sure to put a trivet under the dutch oven to protect your table from any heat damage.
