Looking for a delicious way to eat your daily vegetables? Invest in an au gratin dish, and you can give almost any vegetable an enticing, golden-crusted makeover. The term "gratin" actually comes from a 16th century French word meaning "to scrape," in reference to the cooked-on crust left behind by some dishes. Since then, the term "gratin" has come to mean any dish with a browned crust on top. To us, of course, "au gratin" simply means "delicious" and "comfort" all in one dish.
