Emeril Lagasse originally hails from Fall River, MA, but he is most often associated with his adopted city of New Orleans. Emeril got his start working in a Portuguese bakery in his hometown but went on to pursue a culinary education at Johnson and Wales University. As a young chef, Emeril polished his kitchen skills working in Paris, Lyons, New York, Boston, and Philadelphia. But after taking a job in New Orleans, his cooking was embraced by the city's culinary community, and he went on to open several acclaimed restaurants there. Today, he has expanded his reach to a total of ten restaurants across the country. Emeril is the host of Emeril Live! and The Essence of Emeril and has written twelve cookbooks. He is also founder and president of the Emeril Lagasse Foundation, which is dedicated to supporting young people in the communities where his restaurants are located.
