This hang-around-the-neck timer weighs in at a mere 1½ ounces, so you'll barely know the timer is there until a soft staccato of beeps issues from its trim, slender body to signal the alarm. It counts up as well as down, measuring as much as 9 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds, and when you're not using it as a timer, it functions as a clock. Reliable and comfortable, this is a timer you'll use more than most others.
Easy to use. Like that you can pause the timer to stir, scrape bowl etc
I purchased this item because of the features/options available and the magnetic option (included) to keep on the refrigerator.
I've purchased several for family members. I love being able to wear it around my neck, so no matter where I am I know I won't miss the alarm. Couldn't do without it.
Twice out of 5 or 6 times the timer has stopped before the end of the time. On both occasions I was wearing the timer with the lace around my neck. Apparently the stop button was pushed on contact with my chest. The timer otherwise is great, but of little value if it doesn't time to the end.
Easy to use and read
I love this timer! I wear it when I'm immersed in the garden or upstairs in my office & need to remember a cake in the oven.
'works multi-task well and keeps me from forgetting to turn the burgers [or whatever...]...
When I'm cookin' it's always hangin' around my neck...
I have watched the cooks on America's Test Kitchen use this timer for years, and finally got one for myself. It's handy for grilling or cooking something on the stove or in the oven while doing other things, because it hangs around your neck.
One suggestion: a better neck band would be appreciated; the cord that comes with the timer does not "attach" to the timer or end-to-end to make a necklace, but can be tied to hang it around the neck. It's OK, but could be better / more complete. The timer works just as advertised.
LOVE THIS timer! seek it out almost every year ( we go through a lot of timers at our house.) don't use it for cooking- more for chores, work and motivation.
when moving about & working in the kitchen with this around my neck it was to easy to accidently bump the stop buttom on the timer and not realize it.
I had one just like this for several years, and really liked it, especially nice was the cord so I would not go into another room and forget bout it. But when I accidentally dropped it in a pan of hot water it stopped working; so after trying to dry it out and using a new battery and still it would not work, I looked for another and was delighted to see almost the same timer by the same maker. It is improved a bit with some of the setting buttons colored for better visibility. The only problem is that my husband has severe high frequency hearing loss and cannot hear it unless it is very close, so he uses a different one. I wish every company that makes timers would realize that many people get hearing loss as they age, and for males, it is almost always hi frequency. so to be more easily heard, the tone needs to be both lower pitched, and louder.
i am very glad that you still offer this excellent timer.
This is the third Polder timer I've owned. They are excellent and a great asset in the kitchen and all over the house.
I love this because you can wear it around your neck and not be tied to the kitchen. Also, you punch in the time instead of pushing the button 45 times for 45 minutes. The only reason I gave it a four instead of five is because it is easy to bump the buttons and erase the set timer. Now, I use this many times daily and this has only happened twice but it really throughs you when it does. Still, I would buy another one.
I first saw this timer on America's Test Kitchen's (think Consumer Reports for foodies) and they gave it their highest rating. After reading some of the other product reviews, I was a little concerned about the difficulty people had experienced in setting the clock feature, but I decided to go ahead and place the order. I'm so glad I did! I'm a stay-at-home homeschooling mother and avid "cook" and this timer has been wonderful for keeping me and my family on track. My family, in fact, laughs at me because I wear it around the house all the time so I can use it for timed tests (stopwatch feature is nice here, too), when I have something in the oven or on the stovetop, or even when I'm doing laundry and need to be reminded to check on a permanent press item in the dryer. I can't say enough good about this item.
As for the clock, the directions for setting it are cleverly (or not-so-cleverly as the case may be) hidden between the plastic packaging sleeves and I honestly would NOT have figured out how to set it w/o them. So, for those of you who purchased this and didn't find the directions, here they are, step by step:
1. Press 12hr=24hr button (on the back of the unit) to switch between 12 hour and 24 hour settings.
2. Press and hold CLOCK button until display disappears (about 3 seconds).
3. Press START/STOP to switch between AM and PM.
4. Press the number keys "0" through "9" to actual time. Press CLEAR in an incorrect number is selected. NOTE: for the hours between 1 and 9, "0" must be entered before selecting the hour. (i.e. 9:00 should be entered 09:00).
(Note that the seconds must also be set in order for the clock to function.)
Hope this helps someone! Enjoy... ;-)
I've only used this timer a couple of times, but so far so good. I love that I can wear it around my neck. The alarm is really loud and high-pitched, which I find a bit much, but it does its job!
The best part of this timer? —The cord which goes around your neck and the size, which makes the cord possible. Other timers may work fine--but if you don't hear the signal, what good is it. This timer has cord so it can go can conveniently go with the cook to other parts of the home! It could be less expensive, however. Then I could buy more for other friends...
There are no instructions explaining how ro set the time on the clock function.
Works as advertised
I buy this timer for myself and to give as a gift to others. I can't live without it. How often do you walk away from the stove when the phone rings..............or forget to start something. I wear it around my neck most of the day. Guess its a question of age,
This timer is ideal. However, I ordered two, and one was defective. It had no sound. At this price it was not worth returning. At least I got an extra set of batteries.

Give your oven about 20 minutes' time to preheat before putting in your food- then, start your timer. Putting your food in before the oven's fully heated will result in uneven cooking.
